Best Surf Season (April - August)

As autumn takes hold in the South Atlantic, Ibiraquera starts to fire. The average wave height pushes up from 4ft (1.2m) to 4-5ft (1.3-1.5m), while the average period stretches from 8.6s in March to 9.6s in May and June. This is when the swell window fills with consistent ESE, SE and SSE energy, and the westerly winds associated with cold fronts moving off Argentina deliver the clean offshore flow the break needs. Ideal offshore wind frequencies peak at 61% in June, making late autumn and winter the most dependable months for groomed, powerful surf. Water temperatures fall steadily from a summery 24.9°C in March to 17.4°C by August, so the conditions get more serious, but the quality jump is worth it.

Fair Surf Season (September - October)

Spring is the transition season. September still produces the biggest average swell of the year at 5ft (1.5m), and decent-period energy from the S/SE quadrant can deliver excellent days. But the trade winds are returning: NNE/NE flow reappears, the ideal offshore wind percentage drops from 50% in August to 36% in September and 32% in October, and surface texture becomes a bigger issue. When a high-pressure system parks offshore and the wind turns W/NW, the winter-like swells can still line up beautifully.

Low Surf Season (November - March)

Summer reverts to a windswell playground. Average heights hover around 4ft (1.2m), periods drop to 8.0-8.6s, and ENE/E/ESE windswell dominates the ocean. The persistent NE/ENE trade winds leave only 31-42% of the time with ideal offshore flow, while the rest is cross-shore or onshore chop. It is still a fun, rippable summer spot, especially when a W/NW breeze polishes the easterly lines, but it lacks the size, period and consistency of the winter months.
