February: The Peak of the Offshore Flow

February is the cleanest month of the year from a wind perspective: the combined N/NNE/NE/ENE offshore wind share climbs to roughly 34%, the highest of the year, with NNE alone at 18% and a good chunk of those winds in the 10-20kph range. The swell average remains a tiny 1ft (0.3m) and the average period is a solid 11.8s, so the ocean often looks inviting through a glassy surface but simply does not produce much rideable height. Swell direction continues to be dominated by SSW (45.8%) and S (13.8%), with a small NE component (10.1%) that is mostly windswell from the trades; because Tivives faces southwest, that NE swell does not wrap in effectively. A meager 0.9% of observations reach the 1.6-3.3ft (0.5-1m) class, so most sessions are a longboard grind. The positive side is weather: almost no rain (0.25mm/day), warm 28.3°C water and air temps averaging 27.9°C make the beach an easy place to be patient for a rare set.
