This wave breaks over an uneven bottom, offering speedy lefts and rights that demand comfort in the water—currents and the reef itself add a layer of challenge best suited for intermediate surfers. When a northerly swell rolls in, expect action from 4ft (1.2 meters) up, with the reef shaping peaky, punchy waves that handle a variety of wave heights. The ideal wind is a southerly breeze, and the break stays rideable across all tide stages, though the reef’s contours can shift the quality through the tide cycle. Consistency is decent, earning a 5 for reliability, but the spot’s scenic location and easy access mean you’ll often share the water with a lively lineup. Best Surf Season (November - March)

La Puntilla is a winter-driven wave magnet. As the North Atlantic storm track accelerates toward winter, average swell heights jump to around 5ft (1.5-1.6m) and periods hover around 9.3-9.4s, placing the surf right on the cusp of the powerful 10s class. The dominant swell directions are NNE, NE and ENE, with ENE alone accounting for over a third of the wave energy. These are the months when cold-frontal lows and strong high-pressure cells manufacture consistent groundswell aimed at the island's northeast-facing shore. The trade-wind machine still runs E/ESE most of the time, but the frequency of light offshore SSW/SW/WSW/W winds increases, and when those windows align with a 10s+ pulse, La Puntilla turns on with punchy, rippable surf in the 5-8ft (1.5-2.5m) range.
