Zonte seasonal overview

Best Surf Season (May - September)

Zonte is a south-facing beach on El Salvador's Pacific coast, and its surf life revolves around a simple formula: healthy southern-hemisphere swell meeting offshore northerly flow. The best surfing window runs from May through September, when the southern Pacific storm track fires up and sends consistent SSW and SW groundswell across the equator. Average swell heights climb to 4-4.5ft (1.3-1.4m) with periods in the 13-14 second range, and a healthy slice of each month pushes into the 5-6.5ft (1.5-2m) and even 6.5-8ft (2-2.5m) categories. This is the heart of the biggest, most powerful surf of the year.

Fair Surf Season (April & October)

April and October are prime shoulder-season months. April posts the longest average wave period of the year at 14.1 seconds while the SSW swell begins to build, and October still holds onto late-peak energy before the winter pattern locks in. Ideal offshore wind sits at 57-59% during these months, so when a light N or NW breeze lines up with a fresh south pulse, Zonte can deliver memorable, relatively uncrowded sessions.

Low Surf Season (November - March)

Don't let the word 'low' scare you. Swell heights drop to 3-4ft (1.0-1.2m) on average, but the ocean never goes flat. Long-period SSW and S swells continue to wrap into the beach with surprising shape. The major advantage is the dry season: strong N/NNE/NE/NW/NNW offshore winds take over, pushing ideal surfing conditions to 59-70% of the time. The waves are smaller and more rippable than pumping, but for clean, warm-water surf with excellent weather, this is the most reliable season of the year.
