Best Surf Season & Climatology
Best Surf Season (October - December)
October is where it all starts to click at Krishna River. As the Southwest Monsoon retreats and the Northeast Monsoon builds into the Bay of Bengal, the persistent onshore S and SSW winds fade and the coast switches to cleaner, more cross-offshore flows from the N, NNE, NW and NNW. Ideal wind frequency jumps to 37 percent in October and peaks around 46 percent in November, while average wave periods sit in the 8-9 second range and heights hover near 1-1.1m (3-4ft). October still carries plenty of optimal SSE groundswell before the swell direction shifts more easterly in November and December. It is not the biggest surf of the year, but the surface texture improves dramatically and the river-mouth sandbars start to hold shape. For the best combination of wave size, swell direction and clean wind, October is the standout month.
