Bombies seasonal overview
Best Surf Season (January - April)
The heart of Bombies' year is the northwest monsoon, when offshore N-NNW winds are most reliable and the Indian Ocean pumps continuous SSW/SW groundswell into the south-facing reef. January and February are statistically the cleanest months, with ideal wind percentages of 37% and 41% respectively. Wave heights hold at 1.5m (4-5ft) with 12-14s periods, producing powerful, rippable lefts. March and April retain enough offshore flow to be excellent, especially with longer period swell building in April.
Fair Surf Season (May - June & November - December)
May and June bring a size jump -- up to 1.7-1.8m (5-6ft) with 14s+ periods -- but the southeast monsoon starts sending ESE/SE winds onshore, dropping ideal conditions to 20-23%. It is still worth checking for morning land breezes and anomalies. November and December are the opposite: swell size eases back to 1.5m (4-5ft) as the northwest monsoon returns, but the wind quality is measurably better than the summer trade-wind months.
Low Surf Season (July - October)
The biggest swells of the year hit Bombies from July through October, averaging 1.8-2.1m (6-7ft) with 14s periods, but the southeast trade winds blow relentlessly from the SE/SSE. Ideal wind percentages bottom out between 2% and 11%, which means most days are windblown and lumpy. Only a rare NW/N wind event -- or a dawn landbreeze -- can unlock the park. For the majority of surf trips, this is the time to look elsewhere or pick off the few dawn windows.
