Best Surf Season (October - March)

Sendai faces east-southeast, which means it is hardwired for North Pacific swells from the E, ESE and SE quadrant. From October through March, the Siberian High builds and drives offshore WSW, W, WNW and NW winds across the coast while the Aleutian Low sends a relentless series of mid-latitude storms into the Northwest Pacific. The average swell height sits near 3ft (1.0m) with a period of 9.3-9.4s, and the wind is ideal 45-54% of the time. Clean windows are frequent, especially in November and December, and the combination of offshore wind and east-southeast groundswell produces the most consistent and powerful surf of the year. It is cold and raw through midwinter, with water temps dropping to 7.8°C in February, but the trade-off is a long stretch of quality waves.
