Best Surf Season (December - March)
The northeast monsoon takes control from December through March, and Love Charms transforms into a clean, groomed playground. Offshore breezes out of the N/NNE/NW/NNW quadrant blow straight offshore and smooth out the swell, while the prevailing ESE through SSE groundswell wraps into the bay at average heights around 3.5-4.5ft (1.1-1.4m). Wave periods are in the 9-10s range, producing punchy, rideable surf along the south-facing reef. With wind ideal 58-70 percent of the time, this is the most consistent glassy window of the year.
Fair Surf Season (April & November)
These shoulder months represent transition between the winter and summer monsoons. The wind fields become more variable and the surf becomes stronger as more S/SSW energy arrives, but the percentage of truly offshore wind drops to around a third. You get pumping, longer-period swells in the 4-6ft (1.2-1.8m) range, though an onshore W/SW flow often holds sway for days at a time. Watch for the windows during lighter NW/NNW winds.
Low Surf Season (May - October)
During the southwest monsoon, Love Charms feels the full force of the Indian Ocean but pays the price in wind quality. Ideal offshore wind occurs only 12-19 percent of the time, and steady WSW/W/SW trade winds blow straight onshore or cross-shore, churning up the surface. Average swell heights actually peak at 1.6-1.8m (5-6ft) with long 10-11s periods from the SSE/S/SSW, but those waves are often accompanied by rain and wind. June through August sees the most size and power, but it is raw and lumpy - only the short, early-morning lulls and occasional NW pulse make it worthwhile for the dedicated.
