La Ticla seasonal overview

Best Surf Season (September - March)

La Ticla doesn't get a true winter flat spell. The southwest-facing pocket of the Mexican Pacific lines up with a broad window of long-period, west and southwest energy from late autumn through early spring, and the wind machine is at its kindest. Between September and March, average wave heights hover around 1.1-1.5m (3.5-5ft) with wave periods in the powerful 13-14s range, while offshore flow from the NNE through E quadrant keeps the bay clean 50-62% of the time. September and October are standouts, as South Pacific SSW pulses combine with returning NE offshore winds and water temperatures still near the 30C (86F) mark. December through February trade a little size for glassy, rippable perfection, and March eases into spring with a final push of strong SW swell.

Fair Surf Season (April - August)

Once spring settles in, the swell window rotates toward the SSW and the southern hemisphere starts throwing more energy at Central America. April sees the biggest average heights of the season and a 14.1s groundswell, but the NE trade breeze becomes less reliable, and by May the wind percentages go sideways. July and August rescue the quality as the South Pacific reaches full volume and ideal wind scores climb back to 56-60%, yet the rainy season adds moisture and the occasional afternoon storm to the forecast. Expect solid surf with a side of tropical forecast homework.

Low Surf Season (May - June)

If La Ticla has a low season, this is it. The average swell height stays around 1.4m (4.5ft) and the period is excellent, so it's not a lack of waves that hurts - it's the wind. Ideal wind percentages drop to 37-40% in May and June, and onshore SW/W flow becomes the dominant regime. The early morning often delivers workable conditions before the seabreeze builds, but this is the time to pick your sessions carefully rather than book a month-long strike mission.
