At the same time, long-period southern hemisphere groundswell travels north across the equator, delivering consistent SSW and SW swell that averages 3.5 to 4.5ft (1.1 to 1.4m) with wave periods in the powerful 13-14 second band. Wind speeds are generally light, so a modest offshore breeze can keep the surface glassy. With minimal rainfall and warm water temperatures in the 28-29°C range, this is the most user-friendly and quality-consistent part of the year at Boca Chica.
