August: Peak Tropical Season, Best Wind Windows

August remains in the summer swell regime. The average height is 1.0m (3.3ft), the average period 13.2s, and the wave rose is dominated by SW at 63.2% and SSW at 30.8%. There is a slight uptick in size compared to July, with around 2.7% of observations in the 1.5-2.5m (4.9-8.2ft) range, likely from tropical cyclone swells somewhere in the eastern Pacific. But as before, the direction is marginal for Sayulita's NNW facing beach. The most attractive feature in August is wind: ideal offshore wind is measured at 32%, the second-highest of the year. S, SSW, SW and WSW winds are all present in the rose, and the onshore NNW and N flow is greatly reduced. With water temperature at 30.8 degrees C and rain at 11.59mm/day, it is hot, humid and occasionally stormy. The best waves will come when a tropical system to the southwest sends long-period SSW/SW swell while the wind is still offshore, giving you rare clean summer set waves.
