Best Surf Season (November - February)

When autumn fades into winter, the North Pacific storm track barrels south and Todos Santos switches on. The Aleutian Low deepens, firing long-period W and WNW groundswells across the open Pacific, while the subtropical high retreats and allows more frequent offshore/cross-offshore wind windows. Average swells run a consistent 1.5-1.8m (5-6ft) with periods often exceeding 13 seconds, delivering powerful, lined-up, rippable waves for the west-facing beach breaks. December and January are the crown jewels, with ideal wind frequency reaching 30-32 percent. Water temperatures hover in the mid-teens (14-16°C), so a solid 4/3 wetsuit is essential, but the payoff is winter gold.

Fair Surf Season (March - April, September - October)

The shoulder months offer plenty of size but force you to pick your windows carefully. March and April still see W/WSW swells averaging 1.7m (5.6ft), but the wind regime turns against you - northwesterly winds strengthen and the clean-session frequency drops to 6-12 percent, chopping up surfaces and creating cross-shore chaos. September and October mark the first signs of autumn's return as long-period W energy rebuilds; the ideal wind percentage climbs from 4 to 12 percent, giving occasional glassy scores as the ocean transitions between summer calm and winter power.

Low Surf Season (May - August)

Summer is the quiet season, dominated by a strong North Pacific High that locks in persistent 10-20kt northwesterly winds, blowing straight into the exposed west-facing shore. The swell mix shifts south of west, with WSW/SW pulses topping out around 1.2-1.4m (4-5ft) and periods downgrading slightly. Ideal wind frequency bottoms out at 0-1 percent in June and July, leaving few windows for well-shaped surf. Water temps rise to 18-19°C, making the summer a better time for a beach day than a serious surf session - unless you are happy groveling on small, wind-bumped rollers.
