Agadir seasonal overview
Best Surf Season (October - March)
From October through March, Agadir sits directly in the firing line of the North Atlantic storm machine. Average swell heights run between 1.8m and 2.2m (6-7ft) with average periods of 11.6-13.3s, delivering powerful, long-period groundswell to this west-south-west-facing stretch of Moroccan coast. The wind also comes into its prime: ideal offshore flow from the NE through ESE quadrant is present 47-61% of the time, especially as high pressure builds over southern Europe and the Sahara. This is the heart of the Moroccan surf season. When the NAO index slips negative and the mid-Atlantic storm track sags south toward Iberia and Africa, the consistency and quality at Agadir can be world-class.
Fair Surf Season (April & September)
The shoulder months are a game of transition. April still carries an average 2.0m (6-7ft) of swell and a 10.9s period, but the wind clock starts to swing westerly, cutting ideal surf wind down to just 32%. September is the mirror image: average wave height falls to 1.5m (5ft) while the period climbs back to 10.1s as the first autumn depressions begin to stir. Both months can deliver clean, fun waves during early-morning offshore windows, but consistency and wind quality are a clear step below the main winter season.
Low Surf Season (May - August)
May through August is the Azores High season. Storm tracks retreat north, average heights ease to 1.5-1.8m (5-6ft), periods shrink to 7.8-9.4s, and the swell becomes almost purely short-period NNW windswell. Onshore W and WSW winds dominate the afternoons, and ideal surf wind drops to just 17-27%. The surf is small and often bumpy, although dawn patrol with a light offshore E/ENE flow can still produce fun, rippable waves on the better sandbars. This is low season by Agadir standards - more longboard mush than heavy groundswell, with the odd summer pulse adding some hope.
