Best Surf Season (October - March)
From October through March, the North Atlantic storm track shifts southward and El Jadida becomes the beneficiary of a steady conveyor belt of long-period groundswell. The data shows average wave heights climbing from 5.2ft (1.6m) in October to a wintertime peak of 6.6ft (2.0m) from December through February, with wave periods consistently in the powerful 11.6-13.2s range. These northwesterly and north-northwesterly swells stack up on the NNE-facing sandbars and offer the most consistent rideable surf of the year. Passing cold fronts and developing low-pressure systems also bring more offshore S/SW/WSW wind opportunities, with the ideal wind frequency reaching 29% in December and 26% in January and November. When the local pressure gradient aligns, you get clean 6-8ft (1.8-2.4m) lines under sunny skies - the true magic of the Moroccan winter.
Fair Surf Season (April - May and September)
April, May and September make up the shoulder season at El Jadida. Swell energy is still present, but it is smaller and less consistent. April averages 5.2ft (1.6m) at 11.3s, May drops to 4.6ft (1.4m) at 10.1s, and September shows the first hints of autumn with 4.3ft (1.3m) at 10.5s. The Azores High starts to flex in spring and is still dominant into early autumn, so the NE/NNE trade winds become more frequent and ideal offshore winds drop to just 16-20%. If you time a late-season low-pressure pulse or an early autumn cold front, you can still find clean, rippable waves, especially during light S/SW wind windows.
Low Surf Season (June - August)
June, July and August are the summer trade-wind months. The Azores High dominates and the North Atlantic storm track retreats to high latitudes, so average heights drop to around 3.9ft (1.2m) and periods fall into the 8.4-9.2s range. The wave rose becomes overwhelmingly NNW/NW short-period windswell, while NNE/NE trades blow onshore for the majority of the time. Ideal offshore winds are scarce, just 7-14%. This is the season for beach days rather than surf trips; micro to fun-sized, sectiony waves only come alive for brief windows when a rare southern push or distant storm pulse coincides with clean winds.
