Legzira seasonal overview
Best Surf Season (October - March)
From October through March, the North Atlantic low-pressure conveyor belt becomes Legzira's best friend. Deep extratropical lows rolling out of the Labrador Sea and the Icelandic Low inject long-period groundswell into the Moroccan coast, with average wave heights peaking in the 6-8ft (1.8-2.4m) range and periods regularly holding 11-13s. The WNW-facing exposure is wide open to the optimal NW and NNW swell window, and the local O/OSO/SO/SSO offshore flow (east through south-southeast) grooms the faces 40-50% of the time. Negative NAO winters in particular can steer the storm track farther south toward Morocco, supercharging these windows. This is when Legzira's dramatic coastline under the famous red arches truly lives up to its reputation.
Fair Surf Season (April and September)
April and September are transition months. The Atlantic still sends respectable swell, usually 5-6ft (1.5-2.0m), but the average period drops to 10-11s and the wind regime becomes more northerly as the Azores High strengthens or starts to weaken. Surf quality can still be good, especially in early mornings when offshore continental breezes clean up the surface, but consistency and power take a step back from the winter peak.
Low Surf Season (May - August)
The Azores High locks in over the eastern Atlantic from May through August, and in positive NAO summers it rarely budges. The storm track is pushed far north, leaving Legzira with small, short-period NNW windswell in the 5-6ft (1.5-1.8m) range and average periods below 9.5s. At the same time, the prevailing NNW-NW wind blows directly onshore, and ideal offshore days shrink to between 12% and 23% of each month. These months are best spent out of the water, though the rare clean morning can still offer fun-sized longboard waves.
