Sidi R'bat seasonal overview

Best Surf Season (December - February)

Sidi R'bat is a completely different animal in the heart of winter. The North Atlantic storm track is fully engaged, and long-period groundswell from the W, WNW and NW lights up this west-northwest-facing beach with 6-7ft (2.0-2.1m) of raw, powerful swell. Periods hover in the 12.9-13.2s range, meaning deep-water energy arrives with serious punch. Just as important, the offshore easterly flow - ENE, E, ESE and SE - blows 37-51 percent of the time. That is the million-dollar ingredient that keeps the faces clean and hollow. If you time a winter swell with one of these offshore lines, Sidi R'bat is firing.

Fair Surf Season (October - November, March)

The shoulder months are the classic wild card. October and November see the Atlantic begin to spin up low-pressure systems again, with average swell heights around 5-6ft (1.7-1.9m) and periods of 11.5-12.2s - enough for excellent waves. March still has winter-size swell (6-7ft / 2.1m, 12.3s), but the wind stats begin to shift onshore more often, with ideal offshore flow dropping to 27 percent. These months require more patience and a sharp eye on local wind forecasts, but when an easterly trades, the setup can be world-class.

Low Surf Season (April - September)

Summer is the sleepy season for Sidi R'bat. As the Azores High builds and the North Atlantic storm machine idles down, average wave heights ease to 4-6ft (1.4-1.9m) and periods slide into the 8.1-10.9s category. The dominant swell direction becomes locked in from the NNW - often 65-96 percent of the total - which is a little north of the ideal NW/WNW window and tends to be windswell or grovelly rather than groundswell. On top of that, the prevailing NW-WNW trade winds blow straight onshore, and ideal offshore winds are rare at 2-11 percent. April and September are the most surfable with slightly longer periods and more size, but overall this is a low-energy, onshore-dominated stretch best reserved for sunrise sessions when the wind is light.
