Tucked along the rugged coastline next to a traditional fishing village, Tifnit offers a mellow, off-the-beaten-path vibe that feels a world away from the crowded surf hubs. This rocky point setup serves up a playful mix of waves, with the beach typically quiet and uncrowded—though keep an eye on the horizon, as creeping development may eventually reshape this serene atmosphere. The surf here really shines on smaller days, with clean waves in the 2 to 2.5-foot range (0.6 to 0.8 meters). The break is a dynamic blend of uneven reef and sand, producing a fun, beach-break-style mélange of lefts and rights. Mid to high tide is your sweet spot, and a solid easterly wind will groom things nicely. Swells from the southwest and north deliver the most consistent action, but north winds are a buzzkill—avoid those for a proper session. Best suited for intermediate surfers, Tifnit provides a solid challenge without being overly punishing. If conditions aren't firing, a quick check north of town may reveal better options. But even when the waves are small, this spot is a prime destination for a relaxed day on the sand, soaking in the unhurried coastal rhythm.

Best Surf Season (October - March)

The Moroccan coast at Tifnit faces west into the full fetch of the North Atlantic, and when the seasonal conveyor belt of extratropical cyclones cranks up, the spot shifts into its prime. From October through March, average swell heights hover around 5.5-7ft (1.7-2.1m) with periods of 10.9-13.2 seconds, and the bulk of the energy arrives from the NW and NNW. The most powerful, cleanest windows occur when low-pressure systems deepen in the North Atlantic and push long-period WNW/NW swell toward Africa while high pressure over the Sahara drives offshore ENE/E/ESE/SE winds down the coast. December is statistically the pick of the bunch with 49 percent ideal wind; January and February are right behind. This is when Tifnit sees pumping, firing surf on the better sandbanks.
