Best Surf Season (May - October)

The statistical sweet spot at Playa El Toro comes when the ITCZ shifts north and the North Atlantic trade-wind machine finally loosens its grip. Ideal offshore wind from the SW-WNW quadrant jumps to 54-75% of the time, while long-period Southern Hemisphere groundswell dominates with SSW/SW swells and average periods in the powerful 13-14s range. Wave heights stay mostly clean and fun-sized at 2-4ft (0.6-1.2m). For this ENE-facing beach, the true NE/ENE/E/ESE swell window is rare, but the consistent south swell and groomed surface conditions make this the most surfable stretch of the year.

Fair Surf Season (April & November)

These are transition months. In April the first big south swells arrive and the average period stretches to 13.7s, but ideal offshore wind is still only 23% and the trades are not done yet. November still offers 63% offshore wind and plenty of SSW/SW swell, yet the period is dropping toward 12.3s and northerly winds are rebuilding. Both months can deliver good waves, but with less consistency than the summer core.

Low Surf Season (December - March)

The core dry season is the low point for overall surf quality. N/NNE/NNW trades occupy anywhere from 81% to 95% of the wind rose, ideal offshore flow drops to 7-10% in the heart of winter, and average swell periods fall to 9-12s. The swell becomes a messy mix of NNW, NNE, N and SSW, while the preferred NE/ENE/E/ESE quadrant is almost absent. The result is often bumpy, wind-affected surf with precious few clean windows.
