Best Surf Season (December - April)

The heart of Cabo Blanco's surf year runs from December through April, when the South Pacific High is displaced toward the pole and the southeast trades relax. Ideal wind readings jump to 38-57%, and the average swell sits at a solid 5-5.6ft (1.5-1.7m) with a long 14s period. Swell directions are more varied - SW, WSW, W and SSW in a mix - giving the NW-facing point more angles to work with. These are the months to book your trip: warm water, manageable size and the highest percentage of clean, glassy sessions.

Fair Surf Season (May and November)

The shoulder months offer a gamble. May sees the first big SSW pulses of winter, pushing average swell to 5.9ft (1.8m), but the trade winds build and clean-wind percentages fall to 43%. November is the reverse: swell remains solid at 5.6ft (1.7m), but the trade regime is slow to break down and ideal wind sits at only 23%. If you can score a day between systems, both months produce powerful, long-period surf; otherwise be ready for bumpy conditions.

Low Surf Season (June - October)

June through October is the most difficult period for Cabo Blanco. The Southern Hemisphere winter storm track generates the biggest and most consistent swells of the year - averaging around 6ft (1.8-1.9m) at 14s - but the energy arrives almost exclusively from the SSW, the least favourable direction for the NW-facing break, while a strengthened South Pacific High drives strong S/SSW trade winds. Ideal wind percentages bottom out at 19-28%, so even though the ocean is full of power, the quality is often compromised. Patient surfers can still find rare windows of epic, heavy winter waves.
