Best Surf Season (April - September)

Cerro Azul locks into the South Pacific storm track during the austral autumn and winter, and the result is a long, sustained run of powerful groundswell. From April through September, average surf heights climb to 6-7ft (1.9-2.1m), with a large percentage of waves in the 5-8ft (1.5-2.5m) range. Periods run 12.8-13.7s, putting the swell squarely in the powerful long-period class. The wind regime is just as generous: S, SSW and SW winds blow consistently offshore for this NNW-facing beach, and ideal conditions clock in at 93-98% during these months. This is the heart of the year on the Peruvian coast - consistent, heavy and beautifully groomed.

Fair Surf Season (March & October - November)

The shoulder months are far from a letdown. March sees the swell begin to stack up with an average height of 6ft (1.8m), a 13.6s period and nearly 20% of waves in the 7-8ft (2-2.5m) range. October and November keep the Southern Ocean furnace running at 6ft (1.8-1.9m), with 13-second periods and excellent offshore wind percentages in the mid-to-high 90s. The S/SSW/SW swell window remains the dominant driver, and although the size isn't as relentless as mid-winter, the surf still lights up regularly. These months often deliver the quality without the winter crowds.

Low Surf Season (December - February)

December through February is the smallest stretch of the year, but 'low' is a relative term here. Average wave heights settle at 5-6ft (1.6-1.7m) and periods remain in the 13-second range, so there is still plenty of long-period push. The SSW and SW quarters supply nearly all of the energy, while S and SSW winds keep conditions clean and offshore a remarkable 95-98% of the time. It's the closest Cerro Azul gets to a summer lull, but with warm water temperatures reaching 18-20°C and waves in the fun-size to solid range, it remains a reliable surf destination all year round.
