Best Surf Season (February - March)

The most favorable window at Oscar Point is late austral summer, especially February and March. Offshore-flow percentages reach their yearly peak-4% in February and 6% in March-while average swell sits at a manageable 5-6ft (1.5-1.8m) with 13+s periods. The wave direction is overwhelmingly from the SSW and SW quadrants, so when a rare N/NE land breeze lines up with that groundswell, the point offers clean, powerful, rippable waves. Water temperatures hover near 19°C, making it the most comfortable time of year as well.

Fair Surf Season (January, April - May and December)

These shoulder periods surround the core summer window. January and December tend to be smaller and lighter-wind, with average waves around 4-5ft (1.2-1.5m) and fewer 2m+ waves. April and May see the winter swell machine switch on, with average heights climbing to 5-6ft+ (1.5-1.8m+), but ideal wind percentages drop back to 1-2%. The result is dependable, surfable waves with a persistent southerly texture. An early-morning offshore can still produce good sessions, but you'll have to work for them.

Low Surf Season (June - November)

This is the long, grinding winter/spring period for Oscar Point. While the South Pacific storm track is most active and the average swell heights reach 6-7ft (1.8-2.1m) with long periods, the synoptic pattern also delivers relentless S and SSW winds-the onshore direction for this spot. Ideal offshore wind drops to 0%, and over 90% of wind observations come from the S-SSW-SW quadrant. The result is often powerful but blown-out, lumpy surf. For surfers chasing size rather than polish, these months deliver; for clean, glassy point waves, they are statistically the worst of the year.
