Best Surf Season (October - March)

From October through March, Cauit Point is locked into the northern hemisphere winter pattern. The Siberian High pumps strong northeast trade winds into the Philippine Sea, setting up a sustained fetch that delivers the most consistent NE and ENE swell of the year. Average surf heights climb from 0.7m (2-3ft) in October to a peak of 1.3m (4-5ft) in January, with periods settling into the 9-10s range - punchy, rideable surf with occasional longer-period groundswell when mid-latitude fronts or tropical systems inject extra energy. The catch: the Amihan blows from the same NE-ENE quarter that the swell comes from, so wind quality is often poor. The best sessions happen when a west to southwest offshore flow sets up, grooming the often cross-onshore NE lines into clean, rippable walls. October and November are the real sweet spots within this window because they combine solid swell with a much higher percentage of ideal offshore wind.

Fair Surf Season (April - May and September)

The shoulder months of April, May and September are a transition between monsoons. The NE trade wind swell weakens, with average heights dropping to 0.7-1.0m (2-3ft), but the wind distribution starts to swing from the NE/ENE to the S/SE/SW compass. This increases the frequency of offshore and side-offshore conditions at Cauit Point. You won't get the power of peak winter, yet the combination of clean surface conditions and 8.9-10s period energy makes for fun, groveling waves on a longboard or mid-length, especially as the ocean is warm at 28.5-29.4°C.

Low Surf Season (June - August)

The southwest monsoon, or Habagat, establishes itself by June, bringing persistent SW to W flow - at face value an offshore direction for this ENE-facing beach. However, the same monsoon winds push the dominant storm tracks away from the spot, and the local trade wind fetch diminishes. As a result, swell heights bottom out at 0.5-0.6m (1.5-2ft) with periods around 8.6-9.6s. Although the percentage of ideal wind reaches its highest of the year (28-29%), the lack of open ocean fetch makes it strictly small-wave territory. If you are chasing clean little rollers, this is your time; if you need power, wait for the autumn transition.
