August continues the summer trend with an average swell height of just 2.5ft (0.8m), though the average period nudges back up to 9.6 seconds. East and ENE swells dominate, with E at 32 percent, ENE at 27 percent, ESE at 17 percent and SE at 10 percent. The spot's NNE exposure means the most favorable swell directions--NNE/NE/ENE--account for only around 36 percent of the energy, and nearly all of that is small. What August lacks in size it makes up for in surface quality: ideal offshore winds blow 74 percent of the time, the highest of any month, with S and SSW winds dominating at a combined 32 percent. If a long-range remnant typhoon swell arrives, the period can jump and turn these tiny summer lines into something with more push, but otherwise this is a small, glassy cruisefest.
