Today's Surf Conditions at Agua d'Alto
Best Surf Season & Climatology
Best Surf Season (October - April)
The North Atlantic fires up in October, and the Azores-to-Portugal storm track stays active through April. Averages sit between 2.2m and 2.8m (7-9ft) for most of this window, with wave periods hanging in the powerful 10.8-12.3s bracket. The tradeoff is wind: offshore N, NNE, NE and ENE airflow only happens 20-31% of the time, and many days get ragged under the prevailing SW-to-W flow. But when a storm low plants itself west of Portugal and the wind turns offshore behind a cold front, Agua d'Alto sees some of its cleanest, heaviest, long-period surf of the year.
