Best Surf Season (October - March)

The North Atlantic is the engine that drives Inatel, and it is at full power from October through March. With the south-facing beach needing swell from the south, south-southwest, and southwest to really light up, winter is the clear winner: the storm track dips toward Iberia more often, average surf heights climb to 3ft (0.9-1.0m), and average periods sit in the 10-12s range. That long-period energy is exactly what puts punch in the water. The same frontal systems that drag S/SW swell across the Atlantic also leave behind cooler north to northeast winds, so offshore conditions blow 24-35% of the time through this window. On top of the usual storm track, the North Atlantic Oscillation is key: when it is negative or neutral, low pressures tend to dive farther south, opening the S/SW window more often for Inatel. This is prime time.
