Patrokl seasonal overview

Best Surf Season (October - March)

The Black Sea is not the Pacific, and Patrokl's east-facing beach is at the mercy of a short, enclosed fetch. From October through March, passing cyclones and cold-air outbreaks send a succession of low-pressure systems across the region, and the wave rose responds with the biggest averages of the year: 2-3ft (0.6-0.8m) on average with periods stuck near 5s. The dominant swell is NNW/N, which is not the ideal easterly direction for this spot, but it does wrap into the bay as lumpy, short-period windswell, and the occasional 3-7ft (1-2m) NNW pulse can make the beach feel alive. Northwest through west winds are more common in winter, boosting the offshore potential, yet the ideal wind window still only ticks 4-7% of the time. You will be freezing in thick rubber with water temps near 0C, but this is the most powerful and consistent window Patrokl gets.

Fair Surf Season (April - May)

Spring is Patrokl's cleanest, most user-friendly season. Air and water temperatures climb rapidly, and the percentage of ideal offshore wind jumps to 13-14%, the annual high. The average period inches up to 5.6s and the direction shifts strongly into the S/SSW/SSE quadrant, so waves are generally smaller and softer at around 2ft (0.6m). That said, the east-southeast directional window starts to improve, especially in May when SE/ESE swell totals around 12%. With lighter winds and longer spells of glassy surface, it can be a fun longboarding window for small, clean days.

Low Surf Season (June - September)

The summer months are the low point of the year. Average heights bottom out at 1.5-2ft (0.5m), periods hover around 5-5.5s, and the prevailing summer airflow turns the beach onshore out of SSE/SE. The one silver lining is that SE/ESE becomes the most frequent swell direction, but it is generated over a short local fetch, so the energy is too weak and lumpy to make Patrokl properly surfable. Water temperatures peak at 18-21C and rainfall peaks too, but for surfers this is a waiting season for the first autumn cold fronts.
