Best Surf Season (October - March)

Cadiz's surf year peaks when the North Atlantic kicks into gear. From October through March, the Gulf of Cadiz is exposed to a steady conveyor belt of low-pressure systems moving eastward across the Atlantic, sending consistent WNW, W and NW groundswell into this west-facing stretch. Average wave heights sit in the 4-6ft (1.2-1.8m) range, with periods regularly in the powerful 10-14 second band, especially in December, January and February. When the NAO dips negative, the storm track sags south toward Iberia and Cadiz is the beneficiary. Winds are more variable, but easterly offshore breezes plus lighter mornings produce clean windows 28-40 per cent of the time, making autumn and winter by far the most reliable surf season.
