La Santa Isquierda seasonal overview
Best Surf Season (October - March)
La Santa Isquierda is a winter-led break. As the North Atlantic storm track accelerates through autumn and winter, long-period northwesterly swell lights up the NW-facing point on a consistent basis. October sees the first meaningful pulse of energy, but it is December through March when the average swell sits at 5-6ft (1.6-1.7m) and periods regularly reach 12s or more. During this window, the synoptic pattern over Europe frequently slips south, allowing spells of S-SW offshore flow to groom the faces between Atlantic frontal passages. The mix of power and clean offshore wind gives you the classic left-hander on its best behavior.
Fair Surf Season (April - June & September)
Spring and early autumn offer a transitional trade wind regime. Swell energy is still present, especially April, which holds average 5ft (1.6m) waves at 11s, but the NE trade winds begin to dominate through the day, leaving the spot bumpy and cross-onshore. September is the beginning of the fall transition; tropical disturbances or early mid-latitude lows can inject choice long-period swell, yet you still have to beat the persistent NNE flow. If you find a morning with lighter winds, these months can deliver clean, rippable waves at 3-5ft (1-1.5m).
Low Surf Season (July - August)
The heart of summer is the low season at La Santa Isquierda. The Azores High locks in, the North Atlantic storm track shifts north, and the island comes under the influence of the relentless NE trades. Ideal offshore wind is effectively zero during July and August. Wave heights may average 4-5ft (1.3-1.4m), but these are short-period, trade-driven windswells, often in the 7s, with NNE winds shredding the surface. Surfing is possible, but you will be working hard for mediocre, drifty waves.
