Best Surf Season (October - March)

Fistral Beach is an open window to the North Atlantic, and from October through March the region truly roars to life. Climatologically, this is when the North Atlantic storm track is most active and the UK is repeatedly targeted by extratropical lows. These systems generate long-period W and WNW groundswell, exactly the directions Fistral's west-northwest-facing bay is built to handle. Average swell heights hover around 1.8-2.2m (6-7ft) and periods climb into the 11-12s range, meaning powerful, well-organized lines wrapping into the beach. The westerly wind component is common, but when high pressure builds over the continent or a low drifts into the North Sea, east and southeast winds blow offshore and groom the surf into clean, hollow walls. This is the money window for bigger, more consistent surf.
