November: Peak Season Arrives in Earnest

November is Peak Season at Long Sands. The averages are all winter-class: 1.3m (4ft) of swell at 7.7s, and an ideal wind score of 37% - the joint-highest of the year. The 2-2.5m (6-8ft) and overhead-plus class becomes increasingly common, particularly from the NNE and NNE-adjacent directions, as deep low-pressure systems bring both long-period groundswell and locally generated windswell into the North Sea. While no single direction dominates as brutally as in spring, N and NNW energy adds consistency to the primary NE/E window.

Wind is where November really shines. With 37% ideal surf wind, WSW and W are the dominant flow, producing clean, offshore conditions for a large share of the month. Onshore easterlies are at their lowest frequency of the autumn, which means fewer blown-out days and more quality sessions. Air temps drop to 7.8°C, water cools to 10.3°C, and the wet weather (2.61mm/day) is a sign of fast-moving Atlantic fronts. The combination of size, period and wind makes November arguably the most reliable month of the Atlantic season.
