April marks a noticeable shift toward smaller but cleaner surfing at Perranporth. The average swell height lowers to 4ft (1.3m), average period drops to 10.2s, and the ocean starts to take on that springtime punch rather than full-on winter power. The direction mix remains excellent - W 37.2%, WNW 16.9% and WSW 12.6% - so the beach is still receiving plenty of west-northwest aligned swell, but the heights are generally in the 1-1.5m (3-5ft) range with less 2m-plus energy. What April lacks in size it makes up for in conditions: offshore wind jumps to 24% of the time, the highest of the year, and average precipitation drops to 2.45mm/day. This is the month when a developing European high can sit over the continent and pull a consistent east/southeast breeze across the coast while W swell wraps into the bay. With air temps warming to 9.6°C and water at 10.1°C, it is still a wetsuit affair, but spring is definitely gaining confidence.
