April: The Transition to Trade-Wind Swell

April marks the start of the fair season at Crash Boat. Average swell height eases to 1.3m (4-4.5ft) and the period drops slightly to 9.6s. The direction shifts yet remains in the northeast quadrant - NE accounts for 36.6% of the swell, ENE 25.9% and NNE 21.2%. With a growing share of 0.5-1m waves (mostly from NE and ENE), the raw power of winter gives way to smaller, less consistent surf. The 1.5-2m+ categories are still present but make up a much smaller slice than in March.

On the wind side, offshore flow remains well established. ENE winds blow 30.3% of the time, E 22.2% and NE 16.0%, giving a high 53% ideal-wind rating. These light-to-moderate land breezes keep the beach clean and tidy, often glassy through the morning. Air temperatures rise to 26.1°C and the water warms to 27.0°C, making the conditions increasingly pleasant even if the waves lack winter's punch. Occasional northwesterly pulses can still deliver some long-period energy, but surfers should start lowering their expectations.
