June: Summer Doldrums And Tiny Trade Swell

Hobe Sound enters the true low season in June. Average swell height plummets to 2ft (0.6m), average period to 6.6s, and the wave rose becomes dominated by small E (21.9 percent) and ESE (21.5 percent) windswell, with much of it below 2ft (0.6m). The beach faces east-northeast, so this easterly swell is at least from an okay direction, but the onshore ESE/SE wind that creates it is also blowing directly into the beach. Ideal offshore wind occurs only 18 percent of the time, and those rare windows are generally confined to the early morning before the summer sea breeze kicks up. When the wind does clock to the west-southwest, the small ridges can be fun and rippable on a groveler, but it's not a month to plan a surf trip around. Air and water temps both hover around 27.3°C, and precipitation jumps to 6.95 mm/day with the onset of the wet season.
