The heart of Florida's Atlantic coast surf season comes alive as autumn gives way to winter. The North Atlantic storm track strengthens and relentless cold fronts push across the southeastern US, dragging strong west winds in their wake. Lake Worth's east-facing beaches light up with consistent NE and ENE groundswell, averaging 1.2-1.3m (4ft) with periods around 8s. These are the months with the highest percentage of ideal offshore winds - up to 27% in January - as SW, WSW, W and WNW breezes groom the peaks into clean, punchy, rippable waves. Water temperatures remain a mild 24-26°C, meaning a spring suit or even just boardshorts for the brave. This is the most reliable window for quality, and the North Atlantic's fury is your best friend.
