Perkins

Perkins is a Satellite Beach beachbreak that sits just off the old Perkins/Lums area, where a foundation of sand over coquina and worm rock creates a uniquely shallow, punchy wave. Thanks to this bottom composition, Perkins often holds onto larger swells more reliably than nearby spots with less consistent contours, especially as the tide pushes in. When conditions align, expect fast, hollow peaks that can jack up quickly—best suited for shortboards and surfers who can handle a steep drop. Breaks both right and left, offering variety on a good day, but this is no beginner’s playground; intermediate to expert skills are a must.

Best Surf Season (October - March)

When autumn sends the first strong cold fronts down the eastern Atlantic seaboard, Perkins starts to wake up. The east-northeast facing beach is perfectly lined up for the dominant E, ENE and NE swell that builds on the back of a strengthening Bermuda High and passing frontal systems. Average wave heights sit in the 2-3ft (0.6-0.9m) range and average periods climb to 8.2-8.6s, placing most surf in that punchy, rideable category. Equally important, clean offshore wind windows from SW, WSW, W and WNW jump to 13-16% after fronts move through. These are the months for consistent, semi-organized waves with a mix of trade swell, low-latitude groundswell and post-frontal cleaner conditions.
