Best Surf Season (May-June & September-October)

Pine Grove is a north-facing beach that sits inside an almost permanent E to ESE trade-wind regime. While true north and northwest groundswell arcs are almost absent in the averages, the surf that does arrive is a short-period, locally forced windswell. The best windows come in May and June and again in September and October, when the percentage of ideal wind jumps to between 52 and 63 percent and the ESE/SE flow regularly grooms the beach. Expect mostly 2-3ft (0.6-0.9m) trade peaks on the better days, with the rare 3-4ft (0.9-1.2m) set when an easterly pulse lines up.

Fair Surf Season (April, July, August & November)

April, July, August and November offer a mixed bag. Background energy remains small and short-period, but wind directions become inconsistent. Some days feature light SE/SSE offshore breezes and clean little waves; other days are ruled by raw cross-shore E trades that make every peak lumpy and sectiony. These months are best treated as dawn-patrol and grovel-board time.

Low Surf Season (December - March)

The low season for surf quality is December through March. Ideal wind percentages bottom out at 35-41 percent, while E/ENE winds - cross-shore to onshore for this north-facing stretch - become more persistent and stronger. Although the average swell height nudges up to 3ft (0.9m), the period stays stuck at 6.1-6.2s, so waves remain disorganized and fat. If you have flexibility, pick the dawn windows with southerly or SE winds; otherwise expect mushy, blown-out conditions.
