Rincon Point

Rincon Point earns its nickname as the “Queen of the Coast” with a regal ease—a world-class, right-hand pointbreak that unfurls long, precision-lined rides across boulder-studded and sandy bottom. When conditions align, the wave offers multiple tube sections that can link from the upper reaches of the point all the way down toward Highway 101, creating one of the most epic, drawn-out waves in California. Its distinct zones—Indicator, Rivermouth, and the Cove—each bring their own character, from the fast, pitching takeoffs of the top to the more open, race-track walls below. This is a wave that demands respect, patience, and a keen eye for swell direction, tides, and wind, rewarding surfers willing to read its ever-shifting personality.

Best Surf Season (October - March)

The Pacific storm track shifts south and Rincon comes back to life as the northern fall deepens into winter. Average wave periods climb to a powerful 11.3-12.3s while average heights hold around 3-4ft (1-1.2m). More importantly, offshore N to NNW wind frequency jumps to 31-47%, giving the point the clean surface it needs to hold shape. The raw directional data is still dominated by W and WNW swells rather than the textbook SSE/S/SSW/SW angle for this south-facing spot, but the combination of long-period groundswell, occasional WSW-SW wrap, and reliable offshore flow creates the most consistent windows of quality surf. The best days come when a strong North Pacific low sends long-period swell toward the Channel Islands while high pressure over the Great Basin pulls in N/NE offshore winds.
