The Wall seasonal overview
Best Surf Season (October - March)
The Wall is a winter-focused wave on the US Atlantic seaboard, and the months from October through March deliver the most consistent and powerful surf of the year. As the northern storm track kicks into high gear, long-period WSW and SW swells roll in with impressive size and regularity. Offshore winds from the NE, ENE, E and ESE quadrant blow clean for more than half the month during the core winter, making for crisp, hollow, well-defined peaks. December and January are the absolute apex, with average swells pushing 9-10ft (2.7-3.0m).
Fair Surf Season (April & September)
April and September occupy a transitional middle ground. Swell heights drop to the 6-7ft range, but the SW/WSW directional focus remains strong, so the more reliable swells still line up well with the beach. Wind consistency is a bit lower, with ideal conditions around 35-51% of the time. These months are best for patient surfers who can pick their moments between frontal passages and tropical disturbances.
Low Surf Season (May - August)
The summer lull takes over from May through August. Average heights sink to 4-5ft, periods hover around 10 seconds, and the wind regime becomes increasingly dominated by westerly and northwesterly flows-directly onshore and cross-onshore for this west-southwest facing beach. Ideal offshore winds drop to just 26-40% of the time, leaving many days of small, bumpy, blown-out surf. Occasional tropical systems can bring fun E/SE groundswell, but they are the exception rather than the rule.
