Cabo Ledo seasonal overview
Best Surf Season (May - August)
Cabo Ledo's most consistent swell window arrives with the Southern Hemisphere winter, when the low-pressure systems of the South Atlantic roar to life and fire long-period SSW/SW groundswell toward the Angolan coast. Average wave heights climb to 4ft (1.3m), periods stretch to a powerful 13 seconds, and the cooler Benguela Current keeps the air crisp while the offshore S/SSW/SW flow stays reliable. This is as good as it gets at this northwest-facing bay: not a deep-water open-ocean slab, but a fun, rippable, long-period wave that wraps around the headland and holds its shape. May through August are the pick months for consistent surf.
Fair Surf Season (April, September & October)
The shoulder seasons bring a blend of building winter swells and late-season leftovers. April posts the highest light-offshore wind consistency of the year at 77 percent while swell height averages 4ft (1.2m) and periods are already in the 12-second range. September and October continue to ride the coattails of winter: long-period SSW/SW packets keep arriving, but the South Atlantic High begins to migrate and the clean wind windows become slightly less reliable. When the light offshore breeze settles in, Cabo Ledo can still deliver solid head-high sets.
Low Surf Season (November - March)
Austral summer is the relative lull. The subtropical high weakens, rain and convection increase, and average wave heights ease back to 3-4ft (1-1.1m). Periods remain surprisingly long at around 12 seconds, so the surf is never completely flat, but there are fewer powerful swells and more small, fun-sized days. Warm water, humid air and sporadic tropical showers accompany the smaller waves. Pick your moments carefully and you will still find clean 3ft (1m) runners on a favourable SSW/SW swell.
