Best Surf Season & Climatology
Best Surf Season (April - September)
Ulladulla Bommie is a deep-water, southeast-facing reef that feeds on Tasman Sea energy, and the strongest, cleanest windows arrive from autumn through spring. During April through September, the subtropical high shifts north and the westerly wind belt strengthens over southern Australia. East Coast Lows and Southern Ocean fronts are more frequent, pumping long-period S, SSE and SE swell along the New South Wales South Coast. Average periods climb from 9.0s up to a winter peak of 9.5s in July, while ideal offshore wind days (N/WNW/NW/NNW) occur 45-53% of the time. Water temperatures cool from 20.9°C to 16.0°C, but these cooler months produce the Bommie's most consistent and powerful reef surfing.
