The spot handles swells up to about three feet (one meter) best, with low to mid tide offering the most consistent shape. Best Surf Season (May - August)

The South Atlantic winter kicks into gear from May through August and Praia da Vila sees its most consistent surf of the year. Extratropical lows marching from the Argentine Basin toward the Brazilian shelf generate repeated pulses of SSE, SE and S swell, pushing the average period up toward 9.6s and keeping wave heights in the fun-to-solid 1.3-1.4m (4-5ft) range. The wind also cooperates more often, with offshore N/NW flow behind cold fronts making for glassy morning faces. This is the season where the beach truly fires.
