August is the closing chapter of the Chilean winter wave season, and it does not go quietly. The storm track is still animated, but a subtle shift begins: SW swell climbs to 29 percent of the wave rose, WSW recedes to 49 percent, and W-WNW-NW energy remains prominent at 14 percent combined. The spot's NNW exposure continues to catch a healthy share of that westerly groundswell, and the average height stays at 5-6ft (1.5-1.8m) with a 12.5s period. The share of waves in the 6.5-8ft (2-2.5m) class remains near 19 percent, so well-timed sessions can still produce outstanding size.

Winds begin to taste like spring: ideal surfing wind improves to 65 percent, with SSW and S accounting for 34 percent of all observations and onshore NNE-N-NNW easing slightly. Rain moderates to 2.08 mm/day and air temperatures are cool but rising at 10.0°C (50°F). The ocean hits its annual minimum at 12.2°C (54°F), so thick rubber is non-negotiable. August demands patience - scattered fronts and a touch of inconsistency - but when the offshore S wind lines up with the remaining winter swells, Punta de Lobos offers some of its most powerful, memorable sessions before spring starts to flatten the ocean.
