May is one of the most consistent months of the year at Ollie's Point. The average swell period reaches 13.7s, the longest of the year, and the directional spectrum is dominated by SSW swell at 43.7 percent, with SW adding 21.9 percent and S another 8.1 percent. In other words, around 74 percent of all wave energy is coming from the magic S/SSW/SW window. Most of that energy is in the 3-5ft (0.9-1.5m) range, with some 5-6.5ft (1.5-2m) pulses mixed through the SSW and SW directions. The NE trades have backed off significantly - NE is down to 23.0 percent and ENE to 19.6 percent - and ideal wind conditions reach 52 percent. More variable light winds and afternoon sea breezes become the norm as the green season begins. Rain increases to 5.71 mm/day and water temps are a warm 29.1°C, so you will be surfing in tropical showers, but the long lines and clean conditions make it well worth it. This is the heart of the surf season for this SSW-facing point.
