January is the most consistent month of the year for Playa Bahoruco. The average swell height sits at 1.0m (3.3ft) with a period of 6.8s, so waves are in that average, punchy and rideable zone rather than mushy or epic. A massive 69.1% of all swell arrives from the ESE, with another 26.1% from E, meaning almost every set is aimed directly at the east-southeast-facing beach. About 45% of January's waves fall in the 1-1.5m (3.3-4.9ft) fun-size range, and there is even a sprinkling of 1.5-2m (4.9-6.6ft) energy. The challenge is wind: ideal offshore conditions occur only 13% of the time, and the onshore ENE-SE sector blows over 71% of the time.
