Tucked away along El Salvador’s coastline, Mizata offers a rare combination of consistent surf and uncrowded, mellow vibes. Stretching nearly half a mile of dark volcanic sand, this beach feels like a private escape, with four distinct breaks that keep the lineup spread out. When Punta Roca and Tunco go flat, Mizata often still has something rideable, and the friendly local crew welcomes visiting surfers looking for fun, low-key sessions. The main draw is The Point, a righthander that delivers steep, punchy drops—not long and reeling like Punta Roca, but always engaging. It’s best in the last hours of the dropping tide and the first couple of hours of the incoming. The magic happens on a southwest (SSW) swell, handling waves from 3 to 7 feet (0.9–2.1 m), peeling over a mix of boulders and sand. North winds are your friend here, and the ideal tide window is low to mid. The two other standout breaks are Tweeners, which picks up more water on high tide and serves up lefts on a south swell, and The Slab—a world-class, heavy right when the swell size and direction align perfectly. Mizata suits a wide range of abilities, from beginners to pros, and works on anything from shortboards and funboards to longboards, fish, and bodyboards. The vibe is truly chill, with far less intensity than the more famous spots to the east. Just watch out for exposed rocks at Tweeners during low tide. All in all, this Salvadoran gem offers consistent, quality surf without the aggression—a solid choice for anyone craving a fun, uncrowded wave.

Best Surf Season (November - March)

The dry season is the engine room of Mizata's surf year. As the North Pacific high builds and cooler continental air spills through the Tehuantepec gap, persistent NNE offshore flow combines with a steady diet of long-period SSW/S ground swell. Average wave heights sit between 3 and 5ft (0.9-1.5m) with periods in the 12-13s range, while rainfall drops to near zero and afternoon sea breezes stay on the softer side. This is when Mizata holds a clean, groomed texture and the SSW-facing beach gets the reliable offshore wind it needs to shine.
