Best Surf Season (May - October)

The heart of the surf year at San Blas arrives with the Central American green season. As the South Pacific winter storm track shifts into high gear, a steady diet of long-period SSW groundswell pushes into this SSW-facing beach. Average surf heights peak at 4-5ft (1.3-1.4m) with periods in the 13-14s range, and the swell direction is extraordinarily consistent: S/SSW/SW/WSW account for 95-100% of the wave energy. While the ITCZ makes the winds a bit more variable than in winter, June and July still deliver 53-62% ideal offshore wind, and the classic morning N/NE offshore flow keeps the lineup clean well into the day. The water is warm at 30°C and the tropics are in full bloom - short afternoon storms add texture to the sky but rarely shut down the surf.
