Best Surf Season (October - March)

La Sud is a West-North-West facing stretch of French coastline that comes alive when the North Atlantic pumping machine switches on. From October through March, average swells build to 4-6ft (1.2-1.8m) with periods of 11-13 seconds, and the wind is clean from the east a healthy 30-39% of the time. This is the heart of the European winter swell window. Deep extratropical cyclones track across the Atlantic, sending long-period WNW and NW groundswell into the Bay of Biscay. When the NAO index is positive, the storm track aligns even better. These months deliver the most consistent, powerful surf of the year.
