Best Surf Season & Climatology
Best Surf Season (December - February)
Falasarna is a winter wave. As the Mediterranean storm track pushes low-pressure systems deep into the Ionian Sea, the west-facing beach in western Crete receives its largest and most consistent swell from the W and WNW. December, January, and February all average 1.4-1.5m (4.5-5ft) with wave periods of 6.5-6.6s, producing plenty of punchy, rideable peaks. The wind is always the deciding factor - NE meltemi-type flows often provide a workable cross-offshore texture, but the cleanest days come from the ESE/SE offshore sector when a deep low tracks to the south. This is the time to book a trip if you want the most power.
