Cimaja seasonal overview

Best Surf Season (December - March)

The northwest monsoon is the key to unlocking Cimaja's cleanest conditions. During these months, the wind flow settles into the north quadrant, creating the offshore breeze this south-facing beach needs to keep its walls crisp. Long-period groundswell from the Southern Indian Ocean still makes its presence felt, with average wave periods hovering around 12.5-13.1s and average heights near 1.4m (4-5ft). January and February are especially consistent, with ideal wind a strong 72-77% of the time and a swell mix dominated by SSW and S/SW energy. This is when Cimaja runs at its best: clean, rippable and lined up.

Fair Surf Season (April and November)

April and November are transitional interludes where the monsoon is flipping direction. April still has plenty of long-period SSW and S swell at 13.7s on average, but the SE trades are starting to eat into the surface texture, and ideal wind drops to 35%. November sees the reverse: sizes ease back to 1.4m (4-5ft), periods hold near 13s, and the NW monsoon begins to rebuild, bringing ideal wind back up to 15%. You can score good days in both months, especially around dawn, but you have to be selective.

Low Surf Season (May - October)

From May through October, the Southern Ocean storm track goes into overdrive, producing the largest swells of the year. Average heights climb from 1.6m to 2.0m (5-7ft) and periods stretch beyond 14s. But the SE trades also lock in, blowing steadily from ESE/SE/SSE across this south-facing lineup. Ideal wind collapses to between 3% and 22%, and Cimaja becomes a lumpy, wind-blown version of its former self. Size is not the problem during this stretch; wind is. Only the rare lifting of the trades or a synoptic fluke gives you a genuinely clean day, so be ready to move quickly when the monsoon pattern breaks down.
