Santa Agostino seasonal overview

Best Surf Season (November - February)

The winter months are unquestionably the prime time to surf Santa Agostino. As the Mediterranean storm track intensifies, the Tyrrhenian Sea comes alive with westerly and southwesterly swells generated by deep lows passing to the northwest. Average swell heights push to 0.8-0.9m (2.6-3ft) with periods reaching 5.4-5.6s, and the wind stats show a clear dominance of offshore flow from NE, ENE and E. This is when the beach sees its cleanest, most rideable waves - perfect for hunting down the better sandbank peaks.

Fair Surf Season (March - April & October)

The shoulder seasons offer a mixed bag. March and April still see decent W and SW swell energy from fast-moving spring storms, but the wind becomes less reliable as offshore percentages drop to 22-27%. October marks the transition back to autumn storminess, bringing a noticeable bump in swell height and period as the first North Atlantic frontal systems reach the western Mediterranean, though you may have to pick through more onshore days.

Low Surf Season (May - September)

Summer is a snoozefest at Santa Agostino. The Azores high pressure locks in, shutting down the westerly storm track and leaving the Mediterranean under clear skies and weak sea breezes. Average swell heights bottom out at 0.4-0.5m (1.3-1.6ft) with short 4-5s periods, and the ideal offshore wind frequency plummets to 8-17%. Expect small, grovelly summer surf - best for longboards or a cool morning swim rather than a serious swell chase.
